Yes, I do. Lots. Because life's funny and tragic and if you can't laugh and roll with it you get rolled over. 'Sides, people (mostly) grin back!

Scot.

I've lived almost all my life in Scotland and must have drunk a little too much of the water - I've absorbed the accent, the sense of humour and the inability to deal with hot weather (although not the Scottish propensity for freckling and/or burning in the sun).

Family.

I have a large family, and an even larger extended family. We don't always all get on, but my family do occupy a big chunk of my life. I do find social situations slightly awkward sometimes, so to make life easier I also tend to treat people I meet as if they're extended members of my family. Works for me...

Insomnia.

Thank God, I haven't suffered from this for a while now. In fact, now I have the opposite problem - if I don't sleep well more than a couple of nights in a row, I'm very tired and almost useless the next day.

Brains

Mmmmmm.... Brains....
I'm often described as intelligent. However, outside of a God-given nack for passing exams, I've never really been sure what this means. I remember details long after they stop being relevant and I can connect up patterns between with these details, sometimes arriving at unusual conclusions; does this count as intelligence?

Books

A weakness we share :)
Books are my solace and my sanctuary, my companions and my retreat. When I'm happy I read, when I'm lonely I read. I grew up in and around libraries, and I've never been precious about actually owning books, so my bookshelf grows and ebbs over the months and years. But there are always more books out there to read, and I am never so excited as when walking into a new bookshop or library - the possibilities are endless.

Cyberenhancements

Not sure about this one, or how it relates to me. I have a bluetooth earset which is rarely very far from me, but that's probably about it. Not to say that if someone offered me an upgrade on my ears or eyes I wouldn't be tempted!

Perfumes

While my hearing and sight are as good as they need to be, my nose is the only sense that works a little better than average. As such, I thoroughly enjoy new combinations of scents, and find that they often speak to my emotional state in much the same way as music can - mirroring my mood or prompting a new one. My perfume collection currently holds more precious scented oils than I may be able to use in my life, but it doesn't stop me testing and acquiring new ones on a regular basis - there's always something new to smell!

Humour

I'm not sure that everyone would agree with this as one of my defining characteristics... My sense of humour & playfulness plays best within the classic two-man setup of many a comedy duo. It's not often I find someone I can bounce off sufficiently to keep the ball in play in a game that incorporates both improvisation and one-upmanship, but I am honoured to share that dynamic with bodybag_pilgrim.

Multitasking

Do I? I would have said that I have my share of multi-tasking habits (watch TV & iron, drive & talk on phone handsfree, travel & sleep, rock a baby & talk, etc.) but that I find it difficult to change gears; mental gears in switching to a new task, and (unfortunately) physical gears when driving. Multi-tasking and task-switching might not be the same thing but they're tied together enough that I now perform most tasks sequentially and not together...

Mish tells me that we will be camping out at the Bamboo Gardens all of Sunday afternoon - I'll be there from 1pm for the rest of the afternoon.

I'm arriving on Saturday evening but intending to leave on Sunday afternoon on the 6.30pm train/bus/vehicular transport up the road.

Coming to Lancaster next weekend; really very very excited about seeing people again. I may not have mentioned it, but there have been many times over the last three years when I wanted to jump on a train to Lancaster just for the quality of hugs I'm guaranteed down there.

And yes, the train I've booked is meant to go over an area which currently looks like this but I'm good friends with the rail replacement buses now...

So... is ANYONE still watching Robin Hood? I made it 'til episode 3 or 4 or somehting before deciding that waiting for it to get better was a fool's game and I'd rather do something else on a cold Saturday night in...

I did catch a little bit of last night's episode though. If we ignore the actors (why does every arab seem to have come from the indian subcontinent?!), the dialogue, the costume department (army fatigues in Sherwood?!), the plot, the heavy-handed analogies to the War on Terror, and just about everything else, then we can go :ooooh!: at the fights with two-sworded twirling...

I'm not sure if it's a big deal, spike369, but we had a few corpses lying around by the end of the above fight. There were 4 women warriors despatched by a chap who had probably fought in 'Nam rather than the Crusades. Or does it only count if Robin does the killing..?

While looking for a picture to illustrate this post, I came across this gem:

This afternoon, I have the first tangible preparation: I'm going to my GP's practice to get shot with innoculations against hepatitis, meningitis and typhoid. And I can decide when I get there whether I want tetanus too, just for fun (ouch!) ;)

Only concern? I had the flu this weekend; if the nurse finds out, she'll send me away injection-less and I might not make the deadline. Although I need to have it at least three weeks before I go, and there's still five, so insha'allah (God willing) it's not going to be a big deal...
